Ciba: Day 2

July 17, 2007 | Posted in Academics, Life | No Comments

In the morning, we learned about light–so we learned about color from light and that the light we see is the reflected light (which I already knew). We then learned about the importance of color and how it affects a variety of things (mood, product packaging, clothes, etc.) so it can be a very prodigious industry. We then proceeded to make color (mauveine and indigo), after which we used the mauveine to dye a silk handkerchief violet and we used the indigo to test certain cloth strips. After lunch, we tie-dyed white shirts. I hated tie-dying my shirt, because it looked ugly. So in the end, I just did some really stupid tie-dying and stopped. I also got my lab coat dirty and I tried to bleach it white, but it might the violet that stained my sleeves this really ugly yellow-brown. The teacher who was overlooking the tie-dying activity said, “Those stains just builds character.”

Anyway, I’m looking more forward to next week than this week. Next week, I will be living in hotels and so I’ll probably get to know the people on a more personal level than just in the classroom. When it’s just in the classroom, there really isn’t much to talk about. The only thing you can really talk about it what you did, but talking about school is never that fun.

Would you like to respond?
