Wishlist thinking

November 17, 2007 | Posted in Random Question | 3 Comments

What is on your wishlist?

That’s the question of the day, week, month, or whenever I decide to add another question. I remember when I was little, whenever Christmas was approaching, I would already have a ready 20-list letter addressed to Santa under the Christmas tree. Oddly enough, my family wasn’t Christian, but we celebrated Christmas…somewhat. I always knew there was no Santa Claus or tooth fairy, and that my father was the one who looked through my sister or my letters and chose a few out of the list to place under the Christmas tree (usually unwrapped). It was more like my father would bring my sister and I out Christmas shopping and in the stores, my sister and I would choose the specific movies we wanted to buy that year (we usually bought two movies for Christmas)–well, we could only do it this way because out wishlists were usually vague. Though, I do remember that one year, I was specific and wrote down Pokemon Cards (yes, this was when they were all the fad) and my parents bought them without asking much. But the days when I had 10,000 things I wanted are gone.

I was just trying to think about something I wanted, for Christmas or any present, so someone wouldn’t ask me and I’d be like, “I don’t know. Surprise me.” And then they’d go wrack their brain out thinking, but not coming up with anything. But I don’t really have anything I want–I already have a computer, tablet, cellphone, watch, and ipod nano. Most of anything that I really want is cheap enough for myself to buy at a dollar store or online. I guess the only thing I would have on my wishlist is more clothes.

Maybe it’s because now, when I think about what I want, I think more about what I need. I like drawing, so I need a tablet in order to draw on the computer. Well, it really isn’t a need, but I need it to improve drawing. So that’s why I want it. But there’s not anything else I need anymore. For example, over the summer, I had wanted a playstation, but that want only stayed with me for about a few weeks and then faded away, since I didn’t need a playstation and I wouldn’t be playing it after a few weeks. I guess whatever I want is something I can use for a while–the watch I got for last Christmas, I’m still using. Clothes last a long time. My computer has lasted for more than two years.

But I’m interested in seeing what everyone else would like. Maybe I’ll just steal something on a list.

Yes… I remember “back in the days”. We’re not Christian either but we picked up all the Christmas traditions here in North America. Parents never bought me anything though, they’re not too into gift-giving (I’ve been trying to drill the concept into their heads by getting THEM a lot of presents. So far they haven’t been responsive).

WISHLIST (I think I’ll blog about this later)
1. Laptop computer - though my dad promised it to me (aka bribed … hope i don’t sound too spoiled) if I get 800 on SAT II Physics and an A in Higher Level Math
2. One of those colourful, long, skinny scarves
3. Family flicks on DVD or VCR
4. A stereo
5. More trendy clothes of course, including boots
6. A ski trip
7. A UNIVERSITY ACCEPTANCE LETTER!!! LOL
8. A treadmill or exercise bicycle hehe
9. Book book books, legal dramas preferred
10. Time to jump on the bandwagon (two years behind everyone), an IPOD please!

^ Nah, you don’t sound spoiled. My parents are getting a laptop for me without even bribing–that sounds spoiled, doesn’t it? I’ll most likely get a laptop when I go off to college next fall. It’ll be lasting me for at least 4 years–my sister got her laptop with the Mac deal (buy a Macbook and get an ipod nano for free; as you might have guessed, my sister gave the ipod nano to me!). It’ll be like a graduation present.

My dad also bought a treadmill for my sister and me last summer (cause he REALLY wants us to exercise, but I haven’t touched it much because there are spiders in the basement).

Haha, that acceptance letter and clothes are on my list :)

You’ve had cool Christmases! Although mine have always been good too, except these last couple years when they’ve been filled with stress.

Haha, I still have like 10,000 things on my list. They’re just not Barbies and Pokemon Cards anymore xD My family requests that by Thanksgiving I have a list of things, but I normally start it early and work on it for months, putting things on as I think of them, taking things off that I bought myself, etc. And there’s always a huge list of books and CDs. But this year especially I want:

- A set of bongo drums. I honestly don’t know why. I want to learn to bongo
- a good ceramic hair straighener - I have way too annoyingly wavy hair. looks good curly, but I love it straight
- digital camera
- tickets to this music festival that goes on in May

Would you like to respond?
