Xena: Warrior princess returns

December 11, 2007 | Posted in Interesting | 2 Comments

Xena

The title may be misleading. Unfortunately, the show itself will not be returning with new seasons, since it last ended in 2001. But, I have returned to watching a bit of the show, hence this title. Just the other day, I saw a reference to Xena, and that just reminded me about how much I used to love to watch that show every Saturday night when I was six or seven. Looking back on the show now, I can’t believe I watched such a show when I was little. There’s quite a lot of violence, but then again, it’s not any more violent than all the wu xia series from China that I watched when I was pretty young.

I remembered that I always wanted to know where the scenes from the theme song came from, because I never saw those episodes. I believe I may have only watched less than two seasons of the show, since I could only watch one episodes every week, and sometimes there may have been repeated episodes. But this time, I started at the first episode and I realized that all the scenes from the theme song came from about the first three or so episodes–no wonder I kept on wondering.

The show is still quite enjoyable, but I do find myself skipping certain episodes. After all, who wouldn’t skip to the funnier episodes and leave those single-plot episodes to the side–only to watch if there’s nothing else to watch?

Watching this show is really like reliving memories. I actually still remember certain scenes and I can point out episodes that suddenly seem to jump back at me. And I remember that watching Xena was when I lost my second tooth (because I lost two teeth on the same day; I only lost the second tooth because while I was watching Xena with my sister, my sister and I would get all riled up when the fight scenes came and a part of my sister’s dress somehow became caught between my teeth and my tooth got pulled out).

“In the time of ancient gods, warlords, and kings. A land in turmoil cried out for a hero. She was Xena, a mighty princess forged in the heat of battle. The power. The passion. The danger. Her courage will changed the world.”

I love Xena! I used to watch it when I was little too. I think it came on Sundays here, but I’m not very sure. I always loved Gabrielle (and I still do!). I recently bought the first season on DVD and have been re-watching them as well. It’s so nostalgic, and I totally understand what you mean about reliving old memories. I can remember certain parts that stuck out to me when I first saw them.
