Streaming movies online: Where to watch everything!

March 11, 2008 | Posted in Interesting, Internet | 2 Comments

It’s a calm Sunday evening. Your friends are busy studying for the test the next day, but being the good student you are, you’ve finished preparing already. You’ve done all your statistics homework, finished your art project, and you want to relax a little. Movies are a good way to relax. But you’ve already watched all the movies in your house for the umpteenth time and the library’s closed. You can’t go to the nearest rent-a-movie area and you don’t have the technology to download movies onto your TV. So what do you do in a time like this? Check online to see if there’s a movie that you want to watch streaming online.

Obviously, this method has its drawbacks. It can be considered as illegitimate and the quality isn’t the best, but it’s better than laying on your bed staring up at the ceiling, attempting to count the number of cracks that coat the surface. Plus, you need to brush up on your Chinese.

So, if you know how to read and write a little Chinese, relieved yourself about the immorality of watching streaming online media, and are bored out of your wits,  go to Tudou. You may already have heard about this website by checking out the source links from Surf the Channel. If not, I’ve just helped you find your new movie friend.

I love Tudou because it not only has Chinese dramas and movies with no English subtitles that cover over the Chinese subs, but it provides a variety of movies from all around the world with English subs. So, if I want to brush up on my French, I can watch about Amelie Poulain  with Chinese subtitles. That’s two birds with one stone!

Of course, it’s sometimes hard to find a movie with an English title. But, if you somehow manage to find the Chinese title to the same English film, Tudou will most likely provide you with some streaming content. In times like these, I recommend taking a trip to Baidu and typing in the English title. If you can read Chinese, you will somehow navigate yourself to find the Chinese title. I almost always can, although there are some obscure titles that remain untranslated.

Well, I hope that the next time you’re bored out of your wits and yearning for a movie to watch, this method can provide some service. Although, do be warned that if you want to watch an animated movie, it will almost always be dubbed into mandarin Chinese. This is great if you want to learn some more Chinese though!
