Pre-Frosh visiting weekend at Harvard

April 28, 2008 | Posted in Academics, Life | No Comments

I had a pretty good time during the weekend at Harvard. There were lots of things to do, lots of walking, and lots of time being tired. But overall, it was nice meeting new people. Although, many pre-frosh were in the same boat as me in that after introducing myself and hearing someone else’s name, I forget the other person’s name in five seconds. I only remembered the names of the people who I actually hung out with for a while. There were too many faces to remember!

I have to admit that it was pretty funny that there was a set of questions that every pre-frosh would ask another pre-frosh when they first meet. It was like a ritual.

“Hello, my name is Yingna.” (shake hand)

“Hello, my name is _____.”

“So, where are you from?”

And then it continues from there. A Harvard comedian group even brought that to light.

It was also funny when I made the mistake of thinking certain people were pre-frosh when they actually weren’t. It doesn’t actually sound that bad…but I mistaked a 25-year-old graduate student (from Yale) for a pre-frosh. It was pretty funny, since it turned out that a lot of people had been mistaking the person as a pre-frosh. Oh well. The person will feel happy when in 20 years, people will regard him as looking young.

I’m more excited for the coming fall, though. Since, a lot of the people I met were still choosing between colleges. It will be nice to actually be with people who are in Harvard (for sure)–not people who you meet for a weekend and then might never see again. Facebook comes in handy during those times.
