The summer weather in New York
If you think New York weather is bizarre in the winter, the summer is truly strange. Actually, the weather in winter is pretty reasonable. It’s usually cold with frost on the ground and the grass barely peaking above the barren dirt lawns. It stays like that for the majority of the days. But then, March comes and the spring season settles. Soon afterwards, summer is just around the corner.
Right now, I’m frustrated at the weather. Yes. Frustrated. It was around 60-70 degrees on Friday. Now? Guess what? It’s over 90, and tomorrow the highs will be 97F! I despise heat waves. Funnily enough, there are also isolated thunderstorms today, yet the weather is not cooling down.
Thunderstorms in New York are funny. Instead of actually raining really hard for a very long time and then clearing up for a while, it rains a few minutes, clears up for maybe an hour, rains for a few more minutes, clears up, and the cycle goes on until all the dark clouds have passed. Also, the rain isn’t just drizzling–it’s hardcore pouring. The saying, “It’s raining cats and dogs” fits nicely in this context–this environment, rather. Fortunately, after living in New York for the majority of my life, it’s very easy to tell when it’s going to be pouring. Usually, you can tell by looking at the sky. If it’s sunny but you see dark, ominous clouds on the horizon, then giant raindrops are coming soon. I recommend running to the nearest area for shelter and staying there until the rain has passed. On the other hand, if you see that the sky is just gray all around, it will most likely rain, but not that hard. It’ll be normal drizzling and raining with normal sized drops for a long while. “Normal” rain only really occurs during the winter time, though. Thunderstorms and “abnormal” pouring usually takes place in the summertime.
Well, I guess I better be getting back to cleaning up my house. I have no air conditioning–only fans in every single room. The last family who owned this house decided to not take air conditioning and just install a ceiling fan in every room. This is energy saving, but it can get unbearably hot at times.

That reminds me that today we had a pretty strange rain storm. It poured so hard I thought the rain would pierce through our roof. But that only lasted a few minutes and now there are still low hanging grey clouds, but it actually looks somewhat sunny. This winter we had a thunderstorm with no rain…O.o There was actually thunder and lightning.
It sucks not having a/c in the summer time. Fans are nice but not very effective.

In California it gets to be 120. 97 isn’t as bad as when it’s over 100, but it’s still pretty warm.

I hate the summer weather; especially, here in Iowa because of the thunder storms. I just DON’T like them at all; they keep me awake at night, they scare me to death, and are hard to get used to. ;__;
So, our weather is pretty much almost like New York, except for the strange rain falls. It usually rains when there’s a thunder storm, and rarely rains without one. I love the rain when there is no thunder storm involved. 83
At least, you can somewhat control the room temperature even though they’re just fans. In my dorm the A/C can get EXTREMELY cold, and the only way for me to control that is if I complain to an RA or Supervisor. I hate complaining. :[
The weather is pretty much strange every where though.
