Why so many people want to attend top colleges
I know that there are many people out there who don’t know why attending a top college is beneficial. I remember a few years ago, the only reason that I wanted to attend a great college was because I’ve heard about them so much and attending a good college would make my family happy and proud. So in reality, I had no clue why attending a top college was important.
As junior year in high school approached and I was shown different colleges, I was able to interact with college students and understand why they wanted to go to the school they were at. It came down to three major reasons:
- At top colleges, every student went through a vigorous time in high school. They are all hardworking. This atmosphere really helps students to be motivated to do even better in college. Talking with the brightest minds also allows you to find others to start on business ideas even at such a young age.
- Top colleges are usually pretty wealthy. Therefore, there are many clubs and organizations which you can join. If there isn’t a club to fit your interest, you can create your own, and you can receive money to help your club from the college. This really allows students to get a head start in life.
- Famous alumni come from these top colleges. Famous professors reside at these colleges. If you get into one of these colleges, you have the opportunity to seek out those renowned persons for advice or help. You have access to more resources.
With these resources, it’s no wonder students from top colleges have an advantage when seeking out jobs after graduating. They are given the resources at a young age, which gives them a head start. And fortunately, in this day and age, anyone has a chance at going to a top college. There are people who have a greater advantage of getting in into certain colleges than others, but if you work hard and always push yourself to do even better, you’ll create your own chance of getting into these colleges.
Also, don’t limit yourself from applying to these colleges because of financial reasons. Since these colleges want the brightest minds, they won’t skimp because of the cost. They will help you through financial hardships; they may even pay for all your costs.
So work hard in high school. The success down the road tastes much sweeter when you’ve earned it by your own hands.

I would rather not reveal my scores
For studying, I used review books and took practice tests. I think that’s the only way you can really study for these standardized tests. For vocabulary, flash cards and memorization works pretty well, but vocab isn’t as big a part in these tests as they were in the past.

thax for the insight. Not to annoy you, but i would like to know what i would have to accomplish to furgo acceptance to an ivy league. My GPA this freshman year was quite mediocre around the 80 percentile. I would like to know whether or not i would still have a chance

Em, what grade are you in? And how tough is your school–what is its rank in the nation? Scores and percentiles range from region to region, and school to school.
Of course, if you can reach the average standardized test scores of students already in Harvard, then you stand a greater chance of getting into the school. Collegeboard’s website provides information about the median and average test scores of most colleges.
Your GPA is pretty low, and I would suggest pulling it up. You should be around the 97th+ percentile. But, if you go to a very tough school, then somewhere a little bit lower, such as a 93rd percentile, might be okay. But this all depends. They’ll have to see what else you do outside of your studies, as well.
